What We Do
Barge and Towboat Repair
Superior Marine has a highly experienced and skilled barge and towboat repair service team. The facility, which includes a 2,500-ton drydock and a 650-ton drydock, suited to repair anything from a small boat to a 300-foot long barge. The repair yard has nearly 1,600 feet of fleeting to work on floating equipment while it is in the water. Some of the services provided by this facility are: dry docking for inspection, metal repairs, barge alterations, working with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to provide certificates of inspection, towboat repair including rudders, bearings, wheels, shafts, and other parts. Shore power is available if extended repair time is needed. These services are available any day of the week.
The existing services of Superior Marine coupled with the addition of a waterways and a painting facility will complete the services needed to maintain any aspect of the marine repair industry and accommodate any customer demands for repairs, maintenance or inspections. Superior will also perform Subchapter M inspections, repairs and upgrades to comply with regulation.
Harbor Services
Superior has 40 years of experience in handling high volume fleeting and harbor service. Superior owns and operates 17 towboats. These vessels provide harbor services for line boats, local docks, and terminals. Superior maintains fleets in the Huntington Harbor with the capacity of 395 barges between mile 305 and mile 321.5 along the Ohio River.
The business continues to grow as six of their boats are currently working in the Huntington Harbor on “continuous” shifts. Superior currently operates two vessels that conduct trip work anywhere on the Inland Marine Waterway System.
Precision Paint Systems
Precision Paint is a subsidiary of Superior Marine Ways, Inc. This facility is a 26,000 square feet with an contained indoor blast and paint equipment. Any marine equipment can be serviced in this facility, up to a 300 feet tanker barge.
IRDC (Inland River Dredging and Construction)
This newly formed subsidiary that will provide dredging, river construction and transloading services to the Ohio River system. This company specializes in marine construction specifically fleet installation and structures, sea walls, docks and stabilization. This company is based on the Kanawha River in Charleston, WV.
Superior Marine Ways, Inc. has a management team with over 175 years experience in the marine industry. The team engages in the strategic management of the company and assists with the vision for expansions and growth. Mr. Dale Manns, founder of the company, is still engaged with the company, but does not currently hold an executive management position.
Cleaning
Superior Marine offers dry cargo barge cleaning 24 hours per day, 7 days a week for all barge cleaning needs of the harbor fleet.
New Construction
Superior Marine is an experienced marine equipment builder with the first vessel constructed in 1981. The new construction department is a custom build facility or can build from existing designs. Attention to detail and workmanship is what sets Superior Marine apart from other boat builders. Superior can build to American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Coast Guard specifications. Marine equipment can be custom built to suit the individual needs or preferences. They have built custom lock tender vessels for the United States Army Corps of Engineers including Marmet, Racine, and Willow Island Locks and Dam boats.
The team has specialization in a tug design that is efficient and easy to maneuver in a multitude of water systems. Retrofitting and repairs of ships is an additional service that Superior can provide to customers along the entire inland waterways system.
